Derby County have confirmed encouraging news on Sammie Szmodics following a frightening head injury sustained during international duty.
Scary incident in World Cup qualifier
The forward was knocked unconscious after an aerial collision while representing the Republic of Ireland national team in their World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic national team.
After landing awkwardly, Szmodics required immediate medical attention and was stretchered off the pitch before being taken to hospital in Prague, where he stayed overnight for observation.
Discharged and recovering
In a statement, Derby County confirmed that the Ipswich loanee has now been discharged from hospital after showing significant improvement.
He has returned to the UK and will begin a short period of rest while continuing his recovery under the supervision of both club and international medical teams.
