Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, was celebrating after his team’s 3-1 win over Liverpool. Jamie Carragher told him to “get down the tunnel.”
The Reds had a terrible day at work because Virgil van Dijk and goalie Alisson Becker made mistakes that let their Premier League title rivals score two goals. It was only their second loss of the season. Mikel Arteta’s team was ready for a big game, and they caught Liverpool off guard. The league leaders couldn’t do a thing against the football club from North London.
The Gunners scored goals through Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard. Liverpool got back into the game through an unusual means when Gabriel scored an own goal. Ibrahima Konate got a second yellow card right before Trossard’s goal, which made things even worse for Jurgen Klopp.
Arsenal’s title hopes were revived by the win, and they loved getting one over on their rivals. As soon as the full-time whistle blew, Odegaard, who had played the whole 90 minutes, changed roles and became a photographer.
The midfielder took a picture of Stoke City photographer Stuart McFarlane in front of a happy home crowd, but Carragher didn’t like what he saw.
“Just go down the tunnel. You won the game,” he told them. Three points, you’ve done a great job, and you’re back in the title race. Go back down the tube. I really mean it, I promise.”
After that, he said, “Arsenal deserved to win; Liverpool was so far behind.” They didn’t play well, which isn’t like them lately. They have three or four games left until they play Manchester City. That will really test how calm they are now.
