To replace Casemiro, Manchester United has identified a Premier League holding player that they could acquire for £40 million this summer.

Manchester United reportedly considered Joao Gomes of the Wolves as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro in the middle position. Since his £15 million acquisition from Flamengo in January of last year, Gomes has been a crucial member of the Molineux squad.

Even more so, the 23-year-old was summoned up to the Brazil senior team for the current international break on account of his impressive performance in the Premier League. Gomes could potentially make his debut for his nation at Wembley against England.

It would be the culmination of an outstanding season in which he twice scored in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham last month. But that is not his typical behavior. The playmaker’s title in his native nation is “The Pitbull.” Because he is so proficient at defense and catching the ball, this is the case.

In addition, United is reportedly seeking a new holding player for the summer and has identified Gomes as a potential candidate (21). Casemiro may be required to depart Old Trafford after two years due to his significant decline in performance this season. Relocating to Saudi Arabia could be extremely lucrative.

Gomes’s 32-year-old Brazilian teammate has experienced a greater number of health issues this season compared to when he was one of the season’s most valuable acquisitions. During his rookie campaign with United, he appeared in 53 appearances, contributing to seven goals and seven assists. In the Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle, he also struck a shot.

Throughout his 21 appearances this season, he has managed to score five goals and assist on two others. Conversely, since his first year in England, he has not been able to defend the back line as effectively due to his numerous injuries. Therefore, United is seeking a younger, more aggressive playmaker to complement the improving Kobbie Mainoo.

Gomes is rumored to have appeared on occasion for United this season, including in their recent victory over Fulham at Molineux. His supporters estimate that he is worth approximately £40 million. Additionally, Newcastle and Spurs are interested in him.

Apparently cognizant of the fact that additional clubs are vying for his services, Wolves are already contemplating potential replacements in the event that they are forced to release Gomes after only 18 months. Choosing Gomes over Casemiro would be consistent with the intentions of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new part-owner of Manchester United.

His position on United is to acquire players with the potential to become world-class stars, as opposed to investing heavily in stars who are already renowned. Essentially, this is what they did with Casemiro, a £70 million acquisition whose tenure in Manchester has been brief.

United has also considered Wolves winger Pedro Neto, who could serve as Antony’s replacement. Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise is another individual they admire. Nevertheless, both Neto and Olise have encountered accident-related challenges in recent times.

In the summer, when PSG evaluates Marcus Rashford and Antony, who cost £85 million and did little, is due to depart, United may also alter its forward line. Anthony Martial will be departing the club at the conclusion of his contract.

This week, Ratcliffe stated, “I would rather discover the next Mbappe than attempt to buy success for a lot of money.” Purchasing Mbappe is not exactly a shrewd move, is it? That particular one was readily comprehensible to all. Finding the next Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, or Roy Keane is considerably more difficult.

“Investing heavily in a handful of exceptional athletes is not the solution. They have been doing so for the past decade. Ensuring effective recruitment is of utmost importance. Acquiring new members is a critical component of managing a football club.
