Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag back up the 26-year-old forward Marcus Rashford with uplifting words after Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville criticism

Erik ten Hag says Marcus Rashford should be driven during the last few games for Manchester United, even though he was recently demoted.

Rashford was put on the bench for Thursday night’s 4–3 Premier League loss at Chelsea. Antony, who came in for him, played very well, and Alejandro Garnacho scored twice when he returned to Rashford’s favorite position on the left wing.

Rashford’s place on the bench was called “rotational” by Ten Hag before the game, but United’s starting lineup was mostly made up of their best players.

Two weeks ago, Rashford came on for 15 minutes in a friendly loss for England to Brazil. Last week, he didn’t play in the 2-2 draw with Belgium. After 80 minutes, he was taken off in United’s 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday. At Stamford Bridge, he came on in the 66th minute.

On a podcast with Rio Ferdinand, former United star Gary Neville said “there’s something not right” with Rashford. Ferdinand told Rashford “to look at who is around him” after he was disciplined twice this season. Dwaine Maynard, Rashford’s brother and agent, seemed to say that Neville and Ferdinand were guilty of “bad mind” methods.

Rashford was told off by Ten Hag for going to a birthday party on Deansgate hours after Manchester United lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City in October. Rashford wasn’t even on the team for the 4–2 FA Cup win at Newport County because he had been drinking too much in Belfast.

This season, Rashford and United fans have become less friendly, and his body language has been criticized many times. Before United’s terrible showing at Brentford, he had scored in three straight games, and Ten Hag is sure Rashford can get back to his old self.

Ten Hag said, “I don’t understand what Gary Neville said.” “I think Rashford’s form is getting better lately.” Because he wants to do well with us, he is exceptionally driven. He has a strong desire to win awards and score goals. We have a chance in the FA Cup, and he wants to win and help. He wants to compete for a spot in the Champions League, and the Euros are coming up.

“So he should have a lot of drive. The shape—he can always change the speed. He scored three goals in three games, including one before Brentford.
