On Saturday, Arsenal beat Brighton 3-0 at the Amex Stadium. The first goal came from a penalty kick after Gabriel Jesus was fouled.
It didn’t bother Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi that Arsenal took the lead with a penalty kick in their 3-0 loss at home to Arsenal on Saturday.
The away team’s first goal was scored controversially by Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot after Gabriel Jesus was brought down in the box. Referee John Brooks’ first call was wrong, but VAR was able to change it because Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey touched the ball before he touched the Brazilian.
Arsenal won because Kai Havertz scored two more goals and Leandro Trossard, who used to play for Brighton, scored another. They are now at the top of the table after their win, but Liverpool could take back the top spot if they beat Manchester United on Sunday.
When asked about the first goal after the game, De Zerbi didn’t want to talk about it. “The penalty was clear, and now we move on,” he told Sky Sports.
“The work was good—good enough to win the game.” Up until the second goal, we played well in the first half. After that, we lost. It’s hard to make a chance to score right now because we don’t have many key players.
“Arsenal is in first place in the table, and we played them.” We can lose at home to Arsenal, especially with the way things are going right now. We feel bad about ourselves and our friends.
Brighton dropped to 10th place after their loss. They are now tied with Chelsea in points but behind on goal difference. In their next game, though, at home against Mauricio Pochettino’s team, the Seagulls have a chance to secure their spot in the top half of the table.
It was very important for Arsenal to win after Manchester City put more pressure on with a comeback 4-2 win at Crystal Palace earlier. Havertz said that the squad kept their attention on themselves despite this.
Havertz told Sky Sports, “To be honest, we didn’t talk about it,” when asked about City’s loss. To win the game, we tried to forget about the other games for now. That’s more important than looking at them.
To get where we want to go, we need to win our games. We’re up for the task and ready to go. We play at our best every week, but maybe we can do better.”
