Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta sents out a brutal message when ask if he ask Xabi Alonso about how to beat Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, won’t say if he talked to Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, before Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich. On Sunday, the Gunners play the defending German champions at the Emirates Stadium in the first game of their quarterfinal match.
Leverkusen, led by Alonso, is almost certain to win its first Bundesliga title this season, which would have made Bayern the clear winners of Germany. Alonso, a player who used to play for Liverpool and Real Madrid, has led his Bayer team to an amazing season where they have not lost a single game as they try to win the league, the cup, and the Europa League.
If the team beats Werder Bremen at home on Sunday, they will win the German top league. This season, Alonso’s team has had success against Bayern. They tied at the Allianz Arena and then beat them 3-0 at home in February.
The boss of Arsenal wouldn’t say if he had talked to Xabi Alonso about how to beat Bayern Munich when asked.
“I’m not going to answer that,” he said in his press conference before Tuesday’s game. In a European playoff match, Arsenal has never made it further than the first round against Bayern. However, many people think that the Gunners will win because of their recent form.
The team led by Thomas Tuchel has lost its last two games and is 16 points behind Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Also earlier this season, third-division team Saarbrucken beat them to send them out of the German Cup. Their season has been poor so far.
On the other hand, Arsenal has won all but two of its games this year and has not lost in any tournament. Their defense has also been rock strong. During their great run in 2024, they gave up only five goals.
When asked about the match against Bayern, Arteta said, “Top team.” I really like and respect Thomas [Tuchel], his teams, how they set up and play, and what they send. He taught me a lot, and when you look closely at Bayern, you can see why they’re the best team in the world.
“We’ve done a great job of getting ready, and now we need to win.” We might win if we do that.”
