Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag to Quit coach role at Old Trafford and go back to Ajax as new manager as three new players to be signed during summer window
Reports in the Netherlands say that Ajax wants to sign Ten Hag. The club will be without temporary manager John van ‘t Schip until the summer. Ajax has had a rough season by their own high standards. They are currently fifth in the Eredivisie, 35 points behind the leaders PSV.
Before coming to United the next year, Ten Hag made a name for himself as a manager at Ajax, where he led them to league and cup doubles in 2019 and 2021. However, it looks like he might not want to go back if his old bosses called.
According to the Daily Mail, the Dutchman is “reluctant” to leave United. This means that Ajax will need to fire him in order to get their old boss. Ten Hag’s future hasn’t been decided by United’s owners yet because the club hasn’t made any progress under his leadership.
Reports say that Erik ten Hag would be “reluctant” to leave Manchester United and go back to Ajax at the end of the season. After leaving Ajax to become manager at Old Trafford two years ago, the Dutchman has been linked with a huge return to the Dutch giants.
A choice probably won’t be made until after the FA Cup final next month, where Manchester City will play United again like they did last year. We still don’t know if Ten Hag will keep his job at Old Trafford if they win or if he will be fired no matter what happens at Wembley.
People say that Ten Hag would rather work in one of Europe’s top five teams than go back to Ajax if United fired him. Ten Hag probably won’t be interested in the fact that his old team is going through a transitional time. He has been through a similar situation at United for the last two years.
People say that Ajax has other managers in mind. Graham Potter, who used to manage Chelsea, is one of the options to lead them next season. Early this month, it was said that Potter had been contacted to talk about the job, but it’s still not clear if he would be able to take it.
Nice manager Francesco Farioli has also been linked with a move to Ajax. Farioli led Nice to fifth place in Ligue 1 this season. But there is sure to be a lot of interest in signing him. L’Equipe reports that AC Milan and Napoli have also been thinking about making moves.
Manchester United want to bring in three important new players this summer, which looks like it will be another busy one for the team.
United wants to add a center back, a central midfielder, and a forward to their starting lineup. Any other players they bring in will depend on who they lose.
For every player except Andre Onana, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund, who are all under contract until at least 2028, the club has chosen to listen to offers.
But reliable sources say United won’t be able to get rid of a lot of players because it will be hard for them to find new homes for them. In March, the Manchester Evening News said that at least 21 players might leave in the summer.
Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku, and Nemanja Matic were the three most important summer signings for United since they arrived in 2017. The summer transfer window of 2018 was a disaster. In 2019, Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire were brought in. In 2020, Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, and Alex Telles came.
Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo all helped United in 2021, but it was the summer of 2022 that really changed things. That’s when United spent £226.2 million, which was the most they had ever spent in a single season.
Things got back to normal last year when Onana, Hojlund, and Mason Mount were bought for £179.2 million. Four more players were brought in: Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon on loan, Jonny Evans on free, and Altay Bayindir as a back-up goalie.
From November 2022, when United announced its strategic review, fewer contracts have been renewed. Only Garnacho, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford have been renewed, and all of their deals were made public between March and July of last year. The deal Mainoo signed when he was 17 years old was until 2027, with a chance for an extra year.
This season, Dalot is one of only three players who hasn’t been hurt. He has no plans to leave United because he is happy in Manchester after getting a five-year deal a year ago.
All four of Varane, Evans, Anthony Martial, and Tom Heaton’s contracts end in two months. Ten Hag stated on Friday that Varane’s situation had not changed.
United has already made it clear that they want to sell Van de Beek, Hannibal Mejbri, and Alvaro Fernandez by adding buyback clauses to their loan agreements.
There are no more contracts for Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen, Maguire, Scott McTominay, Amad, Facundo Pellistri, or Mason Greenwood next year. When United needs an extra player, Maguire, McTominay, Amad, Pellistri, and Greenwood can all be used.
Sources close to United have said that they want to keep Rashford and work with him to get back to the form he had last season.
Rashford, who is 26 years old, won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award in 2022–23 after scoring 30 goals. He has only scored eight goals this season. The graduate of the school signed a new five-year deal in July worth about £325,000 a week, but his play has gotten much worse this season.
Rashford has also become angry with United fans, who booed him when he was taken off in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.
