After four and a half years at Man United, Bruno Fernandes said he might be willing to leave in the summer.
Erik ten Hag is sure that Bruno Fernandes will “definitely” stay at Manchester United until the end of his deal, even though the Portuguese player said he might leave in the summer.
Ten Hag said that Fernandes’s talk with DAZN Portugal in his native language was taken out of point. He said: “If you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros” .
The United boss might not stay with the team after this season, but Ten Hag made it clear that he would “absolutely” want to keep Fernandes.
Ten Hag replied, “Yes, but that was also taken out of context.” “I haven’t even asked [Fernandes about the context] because I know he is Manchester United and I think he is very happy to be here.”
When asked if Fernandes would stay at United for at least two more years, Ten Hag said, “Definitely.” Fernandes is under contract with United until 2026, with the chance of an extra year.
Fernandes might not be able to play in United’s Premier League game at Crystal Palace on Monday night because he broke his hand, but Ten Hag said the captain would “fight” to be there.
The 29-year-old didn’t train with the team on Thursday because United players had the day off on Friday. However, Fernandes can move around easily and could play even with a protective cast on.
Fernandes has scored the most goals for United this season and has never missed a club game because of an illness. Ten Hag is amazed by how long the Portugal player has been playing. “It’s very important to have him available.” One of the most important skills for top football players to have these days is the ability to take responsibility. Bruno always does a good job.
“He’s always available, he never misses a game, and he always plays well. He also gives the team energy, which is something that’s needed to win.”
“Being fit is also a very personal thing to judge.” Bruno is a real fighter, that much is certain. His ankle was so thick that it was hard to believe he played against Brighton in the semi-final last year. He wasn’t able to run, but he was still on the field.
“What is appropriate is that Bruno is an incredible role model for many other players.”
