“It is getting more and more ridiculous” – Arsenal legend Ian Wright slams Manchester City for their awarded penalty vs Wolves
In the 12th minute, Manchester City scored the first goal after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri was sent off for a charge on Josko Gvardiol.
Ian Wright, a former Arsenal player, said he didn’t understand why Manchester City got their first chance against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday night.
The Blues beat their West Midlands opponents 5-1, but the game got off to a strange start. When Rayan Ait-Nouri and Josko Gvardiol clashed inside the area, City was given a penalty.
While the penalty was being given by referee Craig Pawson, it was checked by Stuart Attwell, who is in charge of video review. After a short wait, Stockley Park agreed with the decision, and Erling Haaland scored the first of four goals that day.
Everyone agreed that City deserved to win, but Wright of Match of the Day was confused about why the Blues were given the early penalty. He said, “Gary O’Neil definitely has a point.”
“This could be one of the worst penalties I’ve ever seen in a game.” The joke is getting bigger and bigger.
The player Ait-Nouri is turning, but he isn’t looking. He has touched the ball, but I don’t think he has kicked him here at all. He’s about to do what he said he would do when Gvardiol blasts him.
“How can they look at that and say he is getting in the way? I don’t understand.”
City won thanks to four goals from Haaland and a goal from Julian Alvarez. They are now one point behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, but they have a game in hand. Early in the day, the Gunners beat AFC Bournemouth 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
