During a rant after Bayern Munich lost to Real Madrid, a great player made an unexpected reference to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid made another amazing return on Wednesday to beat Bayern Munich and make it to their 19th Champions League final, which is a record.

Two of the best teams in Europe played to an exciting 2-2 draw in the first leg of the semi-final last week. Alphonso Davies’ rocket looked like it would give Bayern a 1-0 win in the second leg.

But Joselu, a replacement for Real Madrid, scored two late goals that turned the game around and gave his team a 4-3 win overall.

In the last few seconds of extra time, there was controversy because Bayern was called offside before they could score what looked like a true equalizer.

Matthijs de Ligt scored a “goal,” but Noussair Mazraoui was offside before the play began. VAR could not look into the situation because referee Szymon Marciniak had already blown his whistle to stop the game.

Bayern was furious because replays seemed to show that Mazraoui was in the right place.

Two Bayern players, Thomas Muller and Thomas Tuchel, were very angry with the referees after the game.

The German World Cup winner came off the bench with Bayern ahead late in the game, but he couldn’t stop Madrid from winning.

“Marciniak? The video wasn’t watched by him. “He didn’t give himself a chance to look at it,” Muller told RMC Sport.

“To whistle so quickly in that case is very strange.” This takes place a lot in Madrid.

“I saw this happen a few years ago, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals. But that was before VAR.”

The things Muller was talking about happened in the second leg of a quarterfinal Champions League match in 2016–17. Real Madrid beat Bayern 4–2 in extra time at the Bernabeu to win the match 6-3 overall.

Ronaldo scored twice in extra time to send Madrid on their way, but both goals should have been called back because Ronaldo was offside.

At that time, VAR wasn’t used in European competition, so the choices made on the field were final.
