The main reason why Manchester City top goal scorer Erling Haaland was not voted for in Player of the Year award revealed
Even though Erling Haaland scored the most goals in the Premier League, he didn’t get any points for the award.
In one of the most prestigious Player of the Year polls, Erling Haaland did not get any points. A possible reason has been given.
Haaland is once again in first place in the Premier League Golden Boot rankings, having scored 25 goals in 28 games this season.
Last weekend’s four goals against Wolves put him ahead of Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, and Alexander Isak, who were also in the running.
Haaland still needs to win three more games, but it has come to light that he wasn’t even nominated for the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award.
Phil Foden, the Norwegian’s partner, won the award after an amazing season. Rodri came in second, and Declan Rice of Arsenal rounded out the top three.
Haaland won the award last year after scoring 36 goals in his first season, which broke the club mark.
But there is a reason why he might not have been noticed this time. In his most recent “Man City Notebook” piece for the Daily Mail, Jack Gaughan quotes a source who says they think there is a story forming around the former Borussia Dortmund striker.
Roy Keane, the former captain of Manchester United and now a pundit, is said to be a big supporter of the idea that Haaland only gets goals. After the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, Keane said that Haaland’s play was “that of a League Two player.”
Haaland’s reaction to being taken off against Wolves was recently called a “spoilt brat” by Keane. Some people think that his comments affect how people rate the 23-year-old.
It’s now a well-known fact that Erling needs to score goals to keep his spot, a source told the Daily Mail.
“Last year’s title game against Arsenal was his best game. He didn’t score until the very end, and his hold-up play was what got them.
Haaland is in the running for both the Premier League Player of the Season and the Young Player of the Season awards. Rodri, on the other hand, is surprisingly not on the lists.
