Newcastle United F.C manager Eddie Howe gave his clear reason why he substituted Alexander Isak for Harvey Barnes during their match against Brighton
It’s unclear why Alexander Isak was taken off while the game was still open, but Eddie Howe has explained.
When the game against Brighton & Hove Albion was very important, Eddie Howe described why he took Alexander Isak off.
The Sweden striker looked surprised when his number was called up with 22 minutes left and Newcastle needing a goal or a big moment. The choice, however, was made because of Howe’s illness this week and the busy week ahead, with games against Man United and Brentford.
Howe declared, “Alex wasn’t feeling great yesterday.” For a three-game week, I decided to just take care of him. So that was the reason. It was also physical sickness for Callum, and he wasn’t feeling his best.
Tottenham and Newcastle were only able to draw at St. James’ Park, which put their chances of going to Europe in some doubt. But Howe wasn’t thinking of a walkover today, so he was honest about his opinion.
Howe stated, “We knew it would be tough because Brighton is always a tough opponent.” Although I don’t believe we reached the level of excellence required to win, I believed we were the ones most likely to do so.
It was a bad goal for us to give up; we got off to a good start and were making progress, but they took the lead out of nowhere.” Unfortunately, our product around the box isn’t up to par, and there probably weren’t enough clear-cut chances.
“Clearly, the scene and atmosphere that the fans made. They cheered for us even when Brighton scored, but we couldn’t find the winning goal. It’s really hard to play here now because they toughened it up. The crowd has become more intense this season. For us, the draw is very important if you’re not going to win the game. I believe that it could be a useful point for us.
Reason why Newcastle United F.C sensational striker Callum Wilson was absent for their match draw against Brighton
But the number 9 won’t play against the Seagulls even though he scored last weekend.
Callum Wilson, the ninth player for Newcastle United, was not put at risk in their last home game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to what we know, Wilson hasn’t really hurt himself, but he wasn’t feeling great and was having some pain. Because of this, Eddie Howe took him out of the team to play the Seagulls as a safety measure.
Ellie Anderson came in for Wilson, who was out, and that was the only move Eddie Howe made to his team since the 4-1 win at Burnley. England full-back Kieran Trippier came back from a calf injury, but he was only a replacement. This was his first start since February.
Why did Howe say that about Wilson? “He’s just not feeling 100% today.” It feels a little tight, but it’s not really an injury.
Newcastle were set up in a way that reminded Howe of their big win at Turf Moor last weekend. He will feel like he still has a lot of firepower to get the job done. Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon will be the main attackers for the head coach.
With two games left, the Magpies can lock down sixth place by beating Brighton and getting three points.
