Manchester United 36-year-old Midfielder made an open confession why he always sits on the bench for Cristiano Ronaldo to play in the match
He stayed at Old Trafford in the dreams of winning the title, but it never happened.
It’s true that Juan Mata decided to stay at Manchester United even though he wasn’t getting many playing time because he really thought they could win the Premier League with Cristiano Ronaldo on the team.
Inside the newest issue, Mata talked about how Ronaldo’s return in 2021 gave him more faith that the team could finally win their first league title since 2013.
Mata only played in nine Premier League games the previous season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team ended a distant second to Manchester City. He says he could have gone to any of a number of other English clubs if he had wanted to.
Mata said, “After so many years at the club, it would have hurt me to leave if United then won the Premier League.” He stayed for another season instead, and then he finally left for Galatasaray.
“I didn’t want to miss that.” A league title party at Old Trafford was in my dreams.
Matea also said that Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United from Juventus in the summer gave him more hope that it would happen in 2021/22, but they ended up finishing sixth.
“I thought we could win the Premier League again,” he said. He had such high standards that everyone else had to follow him.
