Many football pundits delivers their Verdict on 115 Man City FFP charges as Manchester City title win might be tainted
Manchester City is about to win a record-setting fourth straight Premier League title. With a win over West Ham on Sunday, they will have won six titles in seven years.
No matter what happens with the league’s money problems, Pep Guardiola will be remembered as one of the best Premier League managers of all time. But the club’s success will be harmed if it is found guilty of the 115 accusations against them, which they deny completely.
Although the date has not been made public, the case for the lawsuit against the Premier League is set to begin this year. A lot of people have said what they think about the situation and how it’s affecting City’s reputation in the months running up to this weekend’s title match.
Ian Wright — on Sky Sports
“When you see how many trophies Pep has, you have to agree that he’s done a great job.” Then you see what Klopp has done to try to catch Manchester City and how long it’s taken them to get there.
“I agree that Pep’s job may have been easier, but Klopp still deserves a lot of praise.” Toys are out for everyone to see, but we can’t talk about City without talking about the 115 charges that are all around them.
“I want that to go away more than anything else so you can love the team and manager as much as they deserve.” It’s like there’s an elephant in the room when you talk about them.
“It’s not fair on the players or the club for you to talk about them without saying ‘yeah….'” You can’t look at the number of prizes and say that Guardiola hasn’t done better. We want that to go away as soon as possible.
“The FFP case judges Man City’s greatness”
This is Paul Merson in Sportskeeda.
“I’ve always wondered if this Manchester City team is the best in the history of the Premier League.” Before you make a decision, you need to see what the charges are, but they are truly amazing as a team.
“Man City should want things to go quickly”
Gary Neville – on Meet the Press
It was the top clubs that brought in FFP to protect them because they make the most money. The rules need to be changed because I don’t like it.
They say that the Premier League is only picking on small teams as a way to distract people. But what about Manchester City? That’s the big problem: City’s charges haven’t been brought up yet.
“Bring that case forward, speed up the process, and get it done faster. It’s in the best interest of Manchester City and everyone else.” This can’t go on, and it’s bad for the Premier League.
“These charges need to have been brought forward, even if it’s some of the less complicated ones out of the 115 – there is a date established, but Richard Masters wouldn’t share it.”
“Man City’s response is strange”
In The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher said
“I want to know how City’s owners or the people who advise them feel about the problem taking so long to be solved while the team gets ready to win its fourth straight Premier League title after winning the Triple last year.” They should know that it’s bad for their reputation.
“That’s what I don’t understand about the whole dirty business.” Whenever charges are made against people or organizations that are completely sure they are innocent, you would normally expect those involved to demand a hearing as soon as possible.
“Where is the statement from City that they are angry or frustrated that the process is taking so long? Putting the problem off until later means insulting a great boss and his amazing team too much. They won’t know how the club was running during those years when they were being watched closely.
“Guardiola deserves better than to win his sixth Premier League title in such bad weather.” Because they have a great manager, coaching and scientific staff, and a great team, Manchester City is one of the best football teams ever.
“As a group? That’s all I have to say about it. It’s too bad that we had to wait too long for a jury or the Premier League to even start to think about that decision.
