David Beckham talked about Manchester United’s win in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s team played great to beat their rivals 2-1 at Wembley and stop them from achieving an unheard of double. City had gone 35 games without losing in all competitions before the win. United also finished a tough season on a high note.
After making it 2-0 before halftime, Kobbie Mainoo played great in the middle of the field again. Another young star, Alejandro Garnacho, had a great afternoon after scoring the first goal.
And now, after his old team’s surprise win, Beckham has reacted on social media by praising both of United’s academy graduates. The former playmaker played more than 390 times for the team and scored 85 goals and set up 120 others, helping them win six Premier League titles.
“Straight from our academy,” he wrote on Instagram, adding two love heart emojis after a picture of Garnacho and Mainoo. “This is what it means,” he said.
Mainoo told ITV Sport, “Just not getting carried away with ourselves.” That was the key to their play in the second half. We need to be humble and treat them with respect.
“They can do a lot of danger to us, particularly when you go out into the second half, so we just had to maintain our heads and keep together.”
This was the 19-year-old’s first full Premier League game, which was in November. When asked about his goal against City after the game was over, he failed to remember much of it.
In his own words, “It was such a great moment I can’t even remember it!” That’s all I remember: making a run and sliding it into the corner.
Because of his unique trait, Bruno Fernandes sees things that no one else can. I yelled at him, but I wasn’t sure if he could hear me. He found me just in time, and I finished.”
