This year’s Champions League final is between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, which is led by a striker who used to play for Newcastle United.
Alan Shearer has said what he thinks about Joselu’s time at St. James’ Park as he gets ready for the Champions League final on Saturday night. At Wembley this weekend, Real Madrid will play Borussia Dortmund. Both teams want to be named European champions.

If Madrid wins, it will be their 15th European Cup and Champions League title. A man named Joselu, who used to play goal for Stoke City and Newcastle United, could help them get there. The 34-year-old has had a great run at the end of his career. His play at Deportivo Alaves and Espanyol earned him a loan move to Real Madrid and a spot in Spain’s Euro 2024 team.

But things haven’t been easy for Joselu. He had a rough time in the Premier League, especially at Newcastle United, where he scored only seven goals in 52 games. In August 2017, Newcastle United paid £5 million to sign the Spanish player. He had scored four goals in 22 Premier League games for Stoke City in 2015/16, but then spent the next season on loan in La Liga.

But this weekend, Joselu could win the biggest club trophy in Europe. Before that game, Shearer talked about Joselu’s effects at St. James’ Park and the problems he had as a striker during his short time with the club. “I had a lot of chances to see Joselu during his two years at Newcastle,” Shearer wrote on the Athletic. Before, it wasn’t easy to play up front for my old team because they didn’t have nearly as many chances as players like Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak do now. Still, Joselu didn’t make much of an impact—he scored just seven goals in 52 games.

He then said, “But I don’t want to be rude—he just scored two goals for the world’s biggest club to get them to the Champions League final.” His goal could be the one that wins the game. Even though he’s not the best, they saw something in him that made them think, “He’ll do, we’ll take a chance on him.” And playing center forward is all about taking risks.
