Despite having a great first season in England, Tyrell Malacia didn’t play a single minute for Manchester United this year.
Eric ten Hag gave us some new information about Tyrell Malacia, who didn’t play a single minute for Manchester United this season. Before coming to Liverpool for £13 million from Feyenoord, the 24-year-old back had surgery on a knee meniscus injury last summer and hasn’t played since.
Ten Hag’s United team won the Carabao Cup and finished third in the Premier League with Malacia’s 39 appearances in his first season. But the Netherlands international wasn’t given the chance to build on a great first season in England.
Due to Luke Shaw’s own many illnesses, United have had trouble at left back without Malacia. On occasion, even if it was only for a short time, Antony was told to cover the role.
Reflection reported that Ten Hag gave an update on Malacia. The older man, 54, said, “Malacia hasn’t played an all season.” He hasn’t even been to practice once.
“At the beginning of last season, we brought in Malacia specifically to back up Luke Shaw. These two options had to give us a lot. There was a great idea to have Malacia, and he did great last season, but we never had him this season.
“By far, this is the hardest season I’ve ever had,” Ten Hag said. Overall, I’ve talked to the club doctor more than anyone else in the organization this season. That pretty much says it all.
Manchester United’s manager said of Shaw, who broke his leg nine years ago, “Shaw is the best left back in the world, he is so good.” A very bad accident happened to him at the start of his career, though. He will never be able to play 60 games in a year again because of this…
With Ten Hag’s contract ending next year, his situation at Old Trafford is uncertain right now. Despite having 12 months left on his contract, United have looked at a number of other players to replace the Dutchman.
Since the summer transfer window starts on June 14, Sir Jim Ratcliffe doesn’t have long to make a choice. “The only thing I’m doing is preparing my team, developing my team,” the former Ajax manager told BBC One after leading Liverpool to FA Cup glory last month.
“This is something I need to do. I can say it was a mess when I walked in. Our health has improved. The place we want to be is not here. Playing football is all about getting prizes. Ultimately, I want to play the best football—dynamic, attacking football—but I also need to win games and prizes.
“We brought that way of thinking in.” We took advantage of this one chance. I’m proud of the team and players.
