It will be very hard for Manchester United to get Victor Osimhen to move to Old Trafford this summer.
The People’s Person reported near the end of May that United was now in the running to sign the Napoli scorer during the next transfer window.
It was reported that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in signing the Nigerian scorer, which made it harder for United to get him.
Rasmus Hojlund was a good signing for United up front last summer, getting 16 goals in his first season with the team. However, he’ll need help from other players.
Since Anthony Martial left the club, Hojlund is now the only natural scorer left, so the 21-year-old will need a backup player to keep him from getting too tired.
It’s not a surprise that United is interested in Osimhen. He has scored 17 goals and set up 4 others in 32 games this season.
Of course, this follows Osimhen’s great play the previous season, when he scored 26 goals and set up five others to help Napoli win their first Serie A title in almost 30 years.
Now that Napoli is said to be looking for a candidate for Osimhen, the race to sign the goal machine is stronger than ever.
The newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport said that Napoli is hoping that a possible buyer will pay the striker’s €120 million release clause.
The Italian newspaper said that Chelsea is dropping out of the race because new boss Enzo Maresca wants to hire other strikers. However, Arsenal could become a new competitor.
Even though Arsenal could make it harder for United to sign Osimhen, things could get even more complicated because teams in Saudi Arabia are also thought to be interested in making a move.
Even though he is clearly talented, United might be better off going elsewhere because the player has a very high release clause.
Also, having such a famous striker could slow down Hojlund’s growth if the striker role is shared too often.
