Newcastle United is trying hard to get a goalie this summer. Reports say that Newcastle United and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford have agreed to personal terms.

This summer, the Magpies want to add to their goalkeeping choices since Loris Karuis is leaving, Martin Dubravka’s future is uncertain, and Nick Pope just got back from a long injury. The 21-year-old was signed by Burnley from Manchester City last summer and played every game for most of the season. However, he was substituted for Arijanet Muric in the last few weeks of the season as Vincent Kompany’s team failed in their fight to avoid relegation.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have signed personal terms with the young player and are preparing a £15 million bid plus add-ons. This means that the Clarets could get their money back from Manchester United. As part of a sell-on agreement, Man City would get 20% of any sale.

Romano wrote on Twitter on Sunday night, “Understand Newcastle have agreed personal terms with James Trafford as their first choice to become new goalkeeper.”

“Burnley will soon get a new offer, which is likely to be around £15 million with add-ons based on performance.” Burnley will pay 20% of the fee to Man City. Burnley is thought to want around £20 million for Trafford as a whole, while Newcastle tries to make another deal. The Magpies haven’t signed anyone yet this summer, but two deals have already been made: Lewis Hall will make his loan move from Chelsea permanent for £28 million, and Lloyd Kelly will join as a free agent after being let go by Bournemouth.

As the club tries to make a deal with Burnley for Trafford, neither deal has been officially announced yet. However, it is possible that they will be in the next few weeks. The English transfer window starts on Friday, June 14, and ends on August 30.

Spurs player Trafford was one of 33 players that Gareth Southgate put in his original preliminary squad for Euro 2024. However, Southgate cut seven players from the squad, including Trafford. Last summer, Trafford and Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle, helped England win the Under-21 European Championships. In the final, Trafford made an amazing last-minute penalty save.

This summer, the goalie has also been wanted by Chelsea, Liverpool, and Kompany’s new team, Bayern Munich.
