There will be a lot of football this summer for six Celtic players after their two wins at Celtic Park.
It’s been a different story for other Celtic stars on both sides of the Atlantic. Matt O’Riley missed out on playing for Denmark, and the club’s Japanese players have only had games to deal with.
When it starts tonight with a game between Germany and Scotland, the EURO 2024 event will be the talk of football for the next month. The race will go on until July 14, and there will be a final in Berlin to end it.
At the same time, the US is holding the Copa America this year. That one starts on June 20th and ends on July 14th. With teams from both North and South America, that show will make the football event that is about to start even better.
Canada’s Alistair Johnston
Argentina vs. Canada, Thursday, June 20, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game starts at 1am UK time (Thursday night), and it’s on Premier Sports.
Tuesday, June 25: Peru vs. Canada at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, starting at 11 p.m. UK time on Premier Sports.
On Saturday, June 29, Canada plays Chile at Inter&Co Stadium in Miami. The game starts at 1am UK time (Saturday night), and it’s shown on Premier Sports.
During the 2023–24 season, Alistair Johnston played 42 times for Celtic and was a key member of Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven.
He’s also a big leader in the Canada locker room and is a strong part of their best team as they start a new journey with Jesse Marsch in charge.
Even though their first game is against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, the Canadians will jump at the chance to play the best team in the event and get out of their tough group.
Six Celtic stars have been picked for teams in the events. Let’s look at all the specifics and how you can follow their progress.
Scotland’s Callum McGregor, Anthony Ralston, James Forrest, and Greg Taylor
Friday, June 14: Germany vs. Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich at 8 p.m. UK time, shown on ITV
Switzerland plays Scotland on Wednesday, June 19, at the RheineEnergieStadion.
Frankfurt: game starts at 8 p.m. UK time on BBC
Hungary vs. Scotland on Sunday, June 23 at 8 p.m. UK time at the MLP Arena in Stuttgart, shown on BBC.
It’s likely that both Callum McGregor and Anthony Ralston will start in Scotland’s games as the country tries to make it to the knockout rounds of a major event for the first time ever.
Andy Robertson could be replaced by Greg Taylor, and James Forrest could even be used if Scotland needs more speed up front.
Scotland may not have as high of goals as the French, English, or Germans, but they will be looking to use the fact that they are the underdog to their advantage and do well.
The United States’ Cameron Carter-Vickers
USA vs. Bolivia on Sunday, June 23 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game starts at 11 p.m. UK time and is shown on Premier Sports.
Thursday, June 27: Panama vs. United States at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game starts at 11 p.m. UK time and airs on Premier Sports.
Monday, July 1: The United States plays Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The game starts at 2 a.m. UK time (Monday night), and it’s shown on Premier Sports.
Early in last season, Cameron Carter-Vickers had fitness problems for Celtic. But he came back to form and was an important part of their wins in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.
It will be very important for the US to get out of their group and make it to the next round as hosts. That would make a statement, especially since they will be holding the World Cup together in two years.
Carter-Vickers hasn’t quite proven himself as a normal starter for his country yet, but he will be there as a backup and could end up playing a lot of minutes as the tournament goes on.
