Manchester United has finished the signing of young player James Overy.
Overy has now officially moved to United and has signed to play for the youth team.
Overy is a first-year scholar, so he will likely play for United’s Under-18s next season. He hopes to make his Old Trafford bow in the next few years.
The 16-year-old can play for both Australia and England. He left Perth Glory in Australia last year, and his family moved to the south of England.
Overy played for Newton Abbot Spurs’ first team after moving to England, but the Premier League had been interested in him since he caught their attention playing for Perth Glory’s adult team in a pre-season friendly against West Ham when he was only 15.
Overy came on as a substitute at halftime in that July 15, 2016, friendly against West Ham. He played well against players with experience in the Premier League.
After accepting his scholarship, the young player is going to move from Devon to Manchester. He turned down offers from Premier League teams like West Ham, Everton, and Leicester.
During his short time with Newton Abbot Spurs, Overy played right back. He is quick, good at striking, and can also play well with his left foot.
People think that United’s school is the best in its class, and the club’s job as youth scouts is to find kids who might be good enough to make the first team.
Young players who show promise are given scholarship deals. These deals are a step toward possibly being offered a professional contract, which can be signed at age 17.
