Arsenal is interested in Sporting scorer Viktor Gyokeres during the summer transfer window. At the same time, Manchester United is interested in Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.
Viktor Gyokeres is the name that won’t go away this summer. As July comes, reports that the Sporting striker will join Arsenal’s roster keep coming out.
Joshua Zirkee from the Netherlands is another player at the event in Germany who is said to be interesting Arsenal. They aren’t the only Premier League club being talked about, though. Manchester United is also thought to be interested.
However, sources from the Lisbon-based news outlet Leonino say Arsenal is almost done signing Gyokeres. Someone said that the only thing holding up a deal was the money part of the process.
One reason for this could be the player’s £86 million release clause, which is a lot more than Zirkzee’s £34 million price tag. The difference is that Gyokeres is more like the center forward Arsenal already has, while the Bologna forward is more like the one they want to sign.
The difference is clear in the way they are finished. Over the course of their lives, Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus are more alike, as both have scored 0.52 goals per 90 minutes. Kai Havertz is at 0.36 and Zirkzee is at 0.41, even though his sample size is much smaller. Gyokeres also has a higher xG per 90 than Zirkzee, which is 0.3. Gyokeres also has the most shots (3.02 per 90), shots on target (1.35 per 90), and shots on target percentage (44.7%) of the four.
The Swedish player has more experience; he scored 104 goals at age 26 while Zirkzee only scored 35 at age 23. That’s the kind of goal maker Arsenal needs to really step up from Havertz and Jesus.
