In the middle of the field, Paulo Bernardo has officially signed a five-year deal with Celtic, leaving Benfica.
The 22-year-old player was signed for around £3.5 million by the Bhoys. The Portuguese team also has a 30% sell-on option in the deal. They will want him to do well in Glasgow.
Celtic’s first wide player to be signed this summer is Bernardo. Last month, they signed Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.
Both the player and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers have talked about how happy they are to have signed the talented player. The player has said that he loves the Bhoys and has been eager to return since a successful loan spell last season.
In a post on their social media pages, Benfica shared a highlights package of the midfielder’s time at the club. Many fans responded to wish him luck.
Benfica gets a response from Paulo Bernardo
Bernardo replied to the club on Instagram Stories, “Thank you Benfica, it’s been 16 seasons with the biggest club in Portugal.” I hope this season goes well for you and that you win your 39th title.
Given that Bernardo trained with Benfica before the season, he should be in good enough shape to start playing for Celtic right away.
There might even be a first game as a full-time Celtic player on Sunday, when the Bhoys play their first Scottish Premiership game against Kilmarnock.
It looks like Bernardo will do well in the middle for Celtic.
Bernardo has a lot of competition for a spot in the middle of the field because Rodgers already has Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, and Tomoki Iwata.
We know that Bernardo’s boss thinks highly of him, so he should get a lot of chances to play over the next 12 months, maybe even more than the 33 games he played last year.
He is flexible enough to play a number of different center roles, but it was when he was allowed to push forward and help the Bhoys’ attack that he really stood out.
Everyone is excited to see if he can get even better now that things are more stable and he wants to move on with Celtic.
