The Celtic goalkeeping department has undergone a considerable overhaul this summer in order to take into consideration both the short-term and the long-term objectives of the club.
The acquisition of Danish international Kasper Schmeichel by Brendan Rodgers has resulted in the addition of a crucial talent for the here and now. Over the course of the upcoming season, it is anticipated that he will be the squad’s top player.
Viljami Sinisalo, a Finnish international player who is 22 years old and has potential for long-term success, has also been acquired by the club as a form of support.
Celtic has committed him to a long-term contract, and the manager has already mentioned that he is someone who has the potential to compete for a role on the first squad in the future.
Over the course of the following year, the two players will be working together in a very tight manner. Schmeichel has a wealth of knowledge to impart, the most of which was gained via playing at the highest level during his whole career. As part of his development, Sinisalo will hopefully be able to take in some of that information.
On the subject of Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel
As Schmeichel prepares to make his debut in a competitive game this coming Sunday, he met with members of the Scottish press and fan media outlets to discuss his transfer and the upcoming experiences he will have at Celtic.
Sinisalo and his potential were the subject of one of the questions, and the veteran goalkeeper shared his initial thoughts on his new colleague before answering the question.
As Schmeichel put it, “He’s been above and beyond.” He has been incredibly good and really impressive through all of the games that he has played, the time that he has had on the pitch, and the time that he has had on the training pitch. He had a very productive training session today and made a couple of outstanding saves.
“He has left a very remarkable impression on me. His humility is quite admirable, and he is a genuinely good person. It is my opinion that the most essential quality for any young goalkeeper is their willingness to learn, and he clearly possesses that quality.
To the question of whether or not he could achieve the same level of success as Schmeichel, he said, “Definitely.”
This season, it is hoped that Sinisalo will be able to play for Celtics.
If Celtic actually do have a long-term vision for Sinisalo, then he could use some games this season. It is usually difficult for backup goalkeepers to prove themselves on the pitch, but if Celtic do have that vision than he could use some games.
Since Schmeichel is now occupied with league duty and the UEFA Champions League, it would be ideal for him to be utilized in the early rounds of the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup tournaments.
In the event that this does not occur, it will still be useful to spend a year practicing with Schmeichel and goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods, with the goal of eventually replacing the Dane.
