It is said that Denzel Dumfries, a Dutch player, would love to move to Manchester United this summer if the chance comes up.
This week, news came out that Denzel Dumfries wants to join Manchester United, adding another twist to their right-back problem.
The Athletic says that Dumfries has put off talks about a deal with the Italian giants because he really wants to move to Old Trafford. After one more year at the San Siro, the 28-year-old is free to look for new opportunities.
For United, this is a good deal because they want to get rid of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Also, the English player is in the last year of his contract, and the Reds have no plans to extend it past 2025.
At the moment, United wants to sell Wan-Bissaka to West Ham and buy Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich to replace him. It might be a good idea to try this instead if a deal with the Iron could not be reached.
As a warning, though, former right back Gary Neville has told his old team not to go with Plan B like Dumfries did. The 49-year-old said, “He’s not a defender at all,” while commentating on the Nations League semi-final match between the Netherlands and England.
“From the first minute, everything has looked off.” It’s been hard for many people to decide what role Dumfries should play.
As a right midfielder, Dumfries was mostly used in Serie A last season, but he has been known to drop deeper and play as a wing-back when required. When people talk about his playing time, that could also become a talking point.
United’s first pick this season is likely to be Diogo Dalot, who had a great season last year. This means Dumfries may have to be content as a cover player on the right side. It’s not clear if he would take on that job to play for the Reds.
