‘Good runout and great.” – Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar delivers a strong verdict after their win over Stade Brestois in the Sela Cup

Schar began the match at St James’ Park against Stade Brestois and played for 82 minutes before being replaced by Ellis Stanton. The Switzerland international was treated by the physiotherapists before being replaced; however, he was able to continue playing after receiving treatment.

Schar’s injury appeared to result from a forceful challenge with an opponent, as the defender remained on the ground while supporting his leg. The 32-year-old briefly exited the field before being escorted back on by Tony Harrington after being examined by the Newcastle United medical personnel.

Eddie Howe and his medical staff would have been concerned by Schar’s injury with only seven days until the commencement of the new Premier League season. This is especially true given the fact that the injury issues of the previous season are still fresh in everyone’s memory. Nevertheless, Schar posted a social media message on Saturday night that alleviated concerns.

Schar wrote on X, “It was a pleasure to see so many of you at SJP and to have such a successful runout.” I am entirely concentrated on the significant commencement of the season next week.

Newcastle’s inaugural encounter in the Premier League will take place on Saturday against Southampton, as they welcome Rusell Martin’s team to Tyneside following their promotion from the Championship last season. On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle will attempt to achieve a hat-trick of victories at St James’ Park, where they have won their last two opening weekend fixtures.
