Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training complex to undergo their medicals in preparation for their transfers from Bayern Munich.
The duo are anticipated to join the club today, as they have already reached an agreement on personal terms.
It is a remarkable conclusion to the weeks of negotiations with the Bundesliga powers regarding both players.
United pursued De Ligt after negotiations to acquire Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite were unsuccessful, as the Toffees refused to reduce their £70 million valuation. Vincent Kompany regards him as superfluous to requirements, as he has lost favor in Munich.
The two players are likely to be acquainted with the methods and systems of Erik ten Hag, who served as the head coach of Ajax during his tenure as United manager.
The contingent of United talents who have played in the Netherlands is now extensive, with the addition of Joshua Zirkzee, a product of the Feyenoord youth system.
Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, and Antony, as well as coaches Ruud van Nistelrooy, René Hake, and Jelle ten Rouwelaar, will be joined by the trio in having played or coached in both divisions.
De Ligt’s transfer fee is €45 million, with an additional €5 million in variables, while Mazraoui’s fee is €15 million + €5 million in variables.
Both are being offered five-year contracts with the option of a one-year extension.
If all proceeds according to plan and work permits are obtained, both players should be eligible for the Premier League’s opening match against Fulham on Friday.
Nevertheless, as further detailed here, neither player has had a significant preseason, so it would be unexpected if they were regarded physically capable of participating.
Mazraoui, 26, is perhaps the most probable candidate to commence the match against the Cottagers, as United are currently experiencing difficulty in identifying any suitable full-backs for the match.
Luke Shaw was unable to participate in the Community Shield due to an injury, Tyrell Malacia is still two months away from being match-ready, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is currently in London undergoing his own medical in preparation for a potential transfer to West Ham.
Diogo Dalot may be relocated to the left, and Mazraoui may be immediately deployed at right back if Shaw is unable to play.
