Erik ten Hag has already received the ideal advice from Cristiano Ronaldo regarding one of Manchester United’s forthcoming acquisitions.
The Portugal international spent two seasons at Old Trafford, the latter under the leadership of Ten Hag, before departing for Saudi Arabia in 2022. Given Ronaldo’s success upon his arrival from Sporting Lisbon as an adolescent, his tenure with the Red Devils will be frequently recalled for the right reasons.
The former Real Madrid icon, who has been at the pinnacle of football for over two decades, has a wealth of knowledge regarding the art of winning and competing at the highest level. As a result, he has become a part of footballing folklore. Ronaldo has previously provided guidance to one of the Red Devils’ summer acquisitions, as Ten Hag endeavors to guide the team in that direction.
Matthijs De Ligt, who transferred from Ajax to Juventus in 2019, stated that Ronaldo’s constructive counsel was instrumental in his decision. In a remarkable feat, the duo only lost 12 games during their 68-game stint in Turin.
“I was already certain that I wanted to join Juve after the final,” De Ligt admitted after the Netherlands confronted Portugal in the Nations League final in 2019. “It was a big compliment to have [Cristiano] Ronaldo ask me to join, but it didn’t make the difference.”
De Ligt, who is only 25 years old, has acquired knowledge from his experiences in Holland, Italy, and Germany. It is evident that the Manchester United manager believes that the imposing centre-back can contribute an additional dimension to his defense during an important campaign at the Theatre of Dreams, given his previous experience working under Ten Hag.
Last month, Ten Hag expressed his desire to acquire De Ligt, stating, “I was interested in signing him two years ago, but he was already well on his way to joining Bayern.” Believe it or not, his name was not derived from me during the procedure.
Additionally, INEOS has reached a double agreement with Vincent Kompany’s team, with Noussair Mazraoui, a former Ajax player and fellow defender, also expected to join the club. Following Aaron Wan Bissaka’s departure to West Ham United, the Moroccan international is expected to offer Diogo Dalot a competitive edge.
