Alan Shearer said that something an Arsenal player did during their win over Aston Villa in the Premier League was “unbelievable.”

Aston Villa played Arsenal on Saturday in the Premier League, and Alan Shearer said one of their stars did something “unbelievable.”

Arsenal’s important 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon kept them in the running for the Premier League title.

In what was supposed to be the best Premier League game of the weekend, Arsenal didn’t make the same mistakes they did last year and won three important points at Villa Park.

Arsenal found a new gear in the second half after a tough first half. Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey scored goals to seal the win. Last year, Aston Villa beat the Gunners 1-0 in this matchup, but Mikel Arteta’s team made sure they wouldn’t make the same mistake again.

But things might have turned out very differently if David Raya hadn’t made a great save in the first half. Arsenal paid £27 million for the Spanish goalie this summer. He made an amazing reaction save to stop Ollie Watkins from close range after Amadou Onana’s shot hit the crossbar and deflected off the keeper. We can’t say for sure yet, but it will be hard to beat this save for the rest of the season.

To make Arsenal a title candidate, Arteta has had to make some tough decisions. One of them was to drop Aaron Ramsdale in favor of Raya. Even though Ramsdale had been good, Arteta went with Raya as his first choice goalkeeper, and it’s now paid off. While Raya made the save that won the game for Villa, Ramsdale was talking with Southampton about a possible move.

Alan Shearer praised Raya a lot on Match of the Day, saying, “We talked about David Raya last week making a magnificent save at 1-0.” It was 0-0 today. He did something amazing by getting up so quickly and putting that strong hand there. Ollie Watkins had a lot to shoot at, but Raya did a great job.

Arsenal knows that the Premier League title will come down to such small differences. After losing last season at Villa Park, Saturday’s win made a statement, and Raya was a big part of it.

Arteta made the right choice, and with Gabriel and William Saliba also playing great, it’s hard to argue that Arsenal doesn’t have the best defense in the Premier League.
