Celtic
“someone who is extremely ambitious.” Danish former soccer goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel replied back to Celtic FC coach Brendan Rodgers after making bold UEFA Champions League claims
What Peter Schmeichel heard Brendan Rodgers say about his goals for Celtic in the Champions League made him feel good.
When Rodgers got back to Celtic, he talked about wanting to improve the club’s luck in Europe and the Champions League. The bold Irishman wants to make Celtic a force to be reckoned with again in Europe.
Even though winning in Scotland will always be the most important thing, Celtic fans want their team to be able to fight with the best in Europe, like they did when Martin O’Neill, Gordon Strachan, and Neil Lennon were in charge.
Schmeichel was inspired by Rodgers, who was “ambitious.”
Europe needs a lot of money to make progress. And even though Celtic has a lot of money, it’s nothing compared to what other teams in other countries have it.
And that’s why Schmeichel is amazed by Rodgers’ plans to take Celtic to Europe.
“If you read Brendan’s quotes, you’ll see that he’s someone who is very ambitious,” Schmeichel told the Daily Express (page 72).
“He is a manager who always does the right thing.” He knows a great deal about what he wants and is very knowledgeable.
“It’s clear that he wants to win everything at home.”
“He was brave to say that, and he also said we want to do better in the Champions League.”
It’s possible that this new model will work better for a club like Celtic than the old one.
“Celtic is in pot three, which means they have a better chance of making it to the play-offs of the Champions League. That way, they can move on from the Champions League.”
“Before, you were out if you didn’t finish in the top two.” It’s not going to be easy, I promise.
“For clubs like Celtic, I think this format will work much better than the group stages for getting points.”
Celtic can play with the best teams in Europe.
That’s something that all Celtic fans know: no Scottish club will likely win the Champions League again.
In its earlier form, the competition gave teams from the top five leagues in Europe more chances to win the millions of pounds in prize money. This was done by UEFA to make their main event more prestigious by adding more automatic spots.
Even though the format has changed, Scottish clubs can still get to the group rounds. If Celtic win the league this season, they will have to start the qualifying process all over again. This is different from the top five league clubs, who get rewards for finishing second or worse.
That doesn’t change the fact that Celtic should be doing a better job there, which is something that has been missing for a while now.
Fans are very hopeful that Celtic will finally make progress after Rodgers added more good players to the first team this summer. This is especially true since Celtic got a good draw in the Champions League this season.
