English manager and former footballer Jamie O’Hara delivers his clear verdict on Rico Lewis’ performance in England’s 2-0 win against Finland
Rico Lewis has been praised for his play in England’s recent UEFA Nations League win over Finland by a score of 2-0.
Roy Keane praised Lewis’ performance, calling it “excellent” for Lee Carsley’s team on Tuesday night.
Cundy said Kyle Walker might be in trouble because the 19-year-old has become a star for both Manchester City and England.
Carsley put Lewis in the left back spot, which is not where he is most comfortable. He is more at ease playing right back or in midfield.
But the man who made £25,000 a week seemed ready for the task.
In the wake of England’s win over Finland, O’Hara talks about Man City star
From the first whistle, the kid seemed to know what his parts and responsibilities were.
Lewis had a lot of special tactical intelligence for such a young player. He knew when to switch to midfield, push forward, and stray out wide.
When moving forward, the Manchester City star kid found small gaps in the defense and got the ball where most players would likely lose it.
Still, Lewis was able to quickly find his friends and become a safe pass that they could always use.
Whenever there was a one-on-one or a ball in his own box, the versatile defender snatched up any signs of trouble that came his way.
After England beat Finland, Jamie O’Hara said nice things about Lewis and said he could play anywhere on the field.
“You know what I love about him? He knows where to play and can do it anywhere. He can play as a left back on the left side of the field one minute, then move inside, then slide. He can also play as a midfielder or a number 10 player.
Rico Lewis could start at left back for England.
England has a lot of great players in a lot of different spots, but they still have trouble at left back.
Unfortunately, Luke Shaw is still hurt, and Ben Chilwell doesn’t look like Chelsea’s starting left back these days.
Lewis could start at left back for Lee Carsley’s team if he can get more experience and keep playing well like he did against Finland.
The English player will get better at tactics, fitness, and being on the field in general as he plays more adult minutes for Manchester City.
Because of this, Lewis might become England’s best left back and might even get to play in the 2026 World Cup.
