Newcastle United’s best winger to miss their Premier League match against Wolves on Sunday
Callum Wilson hasn’t played for Newcastle United yet this season because he hurt his back in preseason.
Wilson showed everyone how good he is when he’s healthy by scoring ten goals in all categories in just 26 games last season. But, as has been the case throughout his time on Tyneside, injuries keep coming back to haunt him, and he hasn’t played in a game for the Magpies since a nine-minute appearance on the last day of last season.
Wilson missed all of preseason, and while it was hoped that he would be back in action before the international break, he is still out. Eddie Howe has said that Wilson may not be back in action for a few more weeks. Howe said this before the game against Wolves: “Callum hasn’t had a setback but he is a little bit behind where we wanted him to be.” Wilson scored two goals in that game last year.
“We thought he might be training right now to get ready for the games, but he’s not there yet.” He’s likely not quite where we wanted him to be yet.
He went on to say, “There’s no injury or reinjury; he just doesn’t feel like he can push that last part right now. Hopefully in the next few weeks he will be able to, but he won’t be out for long.”
While Wilson was out, Alexander Isak only scored one goal for his club this season. However, he scored three goals for Sweden during the international break.
