Celtic
Player ratings: Celtic 2-0 Hearts
against the course of Celtic’s 2-0 victory against Hearts in this Scottish Premiership match that took place this afternoon, here is how we assessed each player out of ten dollars.
This afternoon at Celtic Park, Celtic extended their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Hearts, who were having a difficult time. Celtic had two new acquisitions to thank for their impressive performance.
In spite of the fact that they dominated major portions of the game, it was a penalty kick from Arne Engels, who was a new player for the Hoops and cost £11 million, that opened the scoring. Engels, a Belgian, scored from 12 yards out in his first start for the Hoops. Luke McCowan, another new player, scored on the final minute of the game.
The new addition was the only change that Brendan Rodgers made from the 3-0 victory over Rangers. Meanwhile, Hearts manager Steven Naismith made a number of changes for the visitors, including bringing back Beni Baningime, Kye Rowles, and Gerald Taylor to his starting XI in Glasgow where they were playing.
It was Hearts who were almost given a shocking opportunity to take the lead when they thought they had been awarded a penalty halfway through the first half. Colin Steven pointed to the spot after an alleged handball from Liam Scales, but the video assistant referee (VAR) would later rule that it was not a penalty. This occurred despite the fact that the Hoops were applying constant pressure.
One minute into the second half, however, the home team would be awarded a penalty kick of their own. Steven would be called to the monitor once more, and this time he would grant the penalty kick. The man of the moment, Engels, would make no mistake from a distance of twelve yards out. With a magnificent curled effort from McCowan, the Hoops were able to increase their lead and seal their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership. They are currently tied with Aberdeen in terms of points, but they are seven points ahead of Aberdeen on goal difference. Most importantly, they are eight points ahead of Rangers’ position.
