Why Pep Guardiola benced Phil Foden during Man City’s 2-1 win vs Brentford even after he was warming up on the sidelines
In Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday, Phil Foden was once again named to the team that played.
As Foden warmed up on the bench, it looked like he would be brought on as a replacement for the second time this season. The first time was on the first game of the season against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, chose to leave the 24-year-old on the bench.
In the end, Manchester City not only won an important game against Thomas Frank’s team, but they also didn’t miss the Englishman.
Even though the 2023–2024 PFA Players’ Player of the Year hasn’t played yet this season, City has won every game.
But it’s hard to see the Sky Blues continuing to win games without Foden for a long time.
Guardiola gives Man City star a report on his health
The man who makes £225,000 a week did amazing things last season that showed how important he is to the future of his old football club.
Manchester City has a great attack, so they can easily replace some of their key players who aren’t available.
Eventually, though, a player with as much production, effect, and tactical versatility will still be very important to his team.
Especially after the previous season, when the player from Stockport became much more important to the team.
There is no doubt that the six-time Premier League winner is a hero at the Etihad Stadium.
Foden’s level of health has been made public by Pep Guardiola.
This is what Guardiola said on HaytersTV: “He is good, not too many training sessions.” So, let’s do it one step at a time. I’m glad he’s back.
“I need him, we need him badly. This player is so important to us that he started training this week and has had three, four, or five sessions.” The game was close, the situation was tough, and I chose to do something else.
It will be interesting to see when Pep Guardiola starts Phil Foden.
Since Foden didn’t play much against Brentford, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Pep Guardiola didn’t start him on Wednesday against Inter Milan.
The attacker can do a lot of different things, and it looks like he is now healthy enough to start games.
The Catalan coach might not think it’s the best idea to start the decorated midfielders against one of the best teams in Europe when he has more fit forwards to choose from.
For example, if Guardiola wants to start Foden against Arsenal, he might play him right away against Watford in the Carabao Cup first.
Before putting the triple winner into a big game, Manchester City’s manager would want to make sure he is fully fit and ready to play.
Because of this, only Pep Guardiola knows how he will get Foden back into the team.
