Al Nassr had a tough game without Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday, when the Saudi club played Al Shorta in Iraq and tied 1-1 to start the redesigned Asian Champions League.

The leader of Al Nassr, Ronaldo, did not travel with the team to Baghdad for the game. The club said in a statement the day before that the Portuguese superstar had been diagnosed with a virus.

BREAKING: The 39-year-old Portugal striker and captain Cristiano Ronaldo was officially diagnosed with viral infection

The statement said, “Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al-Nassr, wasn’t feeling well today and was diagnosed with a virus.”

“The team doctor said he should rest and stay where he is.”

Because of this, he won’t be going to Iraq with the team today. We hope our captain gets better soon.

Al Nassr lost to eventual champions Al Ain in the quarterfinals of last year’s Asian Champions League. They got off to a great start in the Iraqi capital when fullback Sultan Al Ghannam finished off Otavio’s smart first-time pass after 14 minutes. He put the ball low past Ahmed Basil, the goalkeeper for Al Shorta.

Ronaldo has been with Al-Nassr for a while now, but they haven’t won a big trophy yet.
