Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag gave Antony the only condition he has to meet if he wants to be in the Manchester United starting lineup
That’s it for Antony’s season with Manchester United. He came on as a replacement in the 89th minute against Brighton.
Erik ten Hag said again that players will start for Manchester United if they work well, are in good shape, and have a good attitude.
Antony has only made one cameo appearance this season, coming on as a replacement in the 89th minute against Brighton. He also didn’t start in any of the club’s five pre-season games. On Saturday, Chelsea beat Southampton 3-0. The winger was supposed to come on late, but Matthijs de Ligt had to leave because of cramps, so Casemiro was sent on in his place.
Antony, 24, was signed by United from Ajax for a fee that could reach €100 million in 2022. However, the Brazilian has only scored 11 goals in 83 games and lost his spot on the team last season. Right winger Amad, who also shoots with his left foot, has had a great year. He was named United’s player of the month for August before playing a big part in the win at Southampton.
This season, wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford have also scored goals. Ten Hag did not say for sure if Antony would start on Tuesday night’s League Cup match against Barnsley from League One.
Ten Hag said, “You’ll see the lineup tomorrow.” “The players have to work hard every day in order to be able to play.
“When players are doing the right things in training, when the attitude is good and they show performance in training then they will earn the right to play.”
Antony took time off in September of last year to look into claims of domestic violence. The police investigation in Brazil ended last month, but no one was charged.
Last season, he started just 21 of United’s 52 games and scored just once as a starting, in the FA Cup away to League Two Newport County. Ten Hag was Antony’s coach at Ajax when he went from Sao Paulo to Amsterdam in 2020. He coached the Brazil international for two years before they met again in Manchester.
