Fans of Celtic got a better look at Arne Engels’s skills this past weekend when he made his first start for the team.

The Belgian earned a spot in Brendan Rodgers’ eleven for the 2-0 win over Hearts and even scored a goal from the penalty spot.

Fans have good first thoughts about Engels. He definitely has some good skills, and at 21, he has a lot of room to get better.

Rodgers really likes a lot about his new player and was surprised by what he saw. He also suggested that the player will only get better.

Brendan Rodgers says that Arne Engels will be “really good” for Celtic.
In a news conference after the game, the Bhoys manager said [Celtic Way]: “He had two great chances.” One was in the box, but he failed to get his foot on it, and it went over the bar. He also came up with a quick plan to keep another one from going in and it hit the post. That was good of him.

“He’s going to play really well.” He’s tall and in good shape. He can run and hit the ball well. He presses and counter-presses. I like him a lot, which is why we brought him here. He’s only going to get better at age 21.

“I’m so happy for him. He gets the penalty, and he’s brave enough to take it and score.”

“We still need to work on his positioning with him, which is normal given how we play and how he wants to go, but that’s just rhythm and time.”

“That’s the process these players go through.” I’m happy for him in general.

Engels can quickly become an important part of Celtic
Will Engels stay on Rodgers’ team for Wednesday night’s test against Slovan Bratislava? That will be very interesting to see.

Assuming he does, it’s clear that the young player is already the manager’s first choice for that middle spot.

Paulo Bernardo didn’t do much wrong against the Rangers, but he might not be that top pick after all. Instead, he could be used as a rotation and backup play throughout the season.

That’s good news for Celtic. We like that there is competition for spots. But it would show how highly the boss already thinks of Engels. We haven’t even begun to see what he can do for the club.
