Irish football manager Neil Lennon explains the feelings of what Every Celtic Fan is thinking After Borussia Dortmund thrashed Celtic FC (7-1)
Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon thinks it was crazy that Celtic wouldn’t change their strategy during last night’s embarrassing loss to Borussia Dortmund, even though they kept giving up goals.
The Hoops lost badly in Germany, where Bundesliga giants Dortmund beat them by seven goals. It was a terrible night.
Celtic lost badly because Emre Can, Karim Adeyemi, Serhou Guirassy, and Felix Nmecha all scored goals.
As soon as they started, the Bhoys looked scared and were behind everything else.
Their strategy for the game was wrong because Dortmund kept beating their press, running over their nonexistent middle, and easily breaking through their defensive line.
Also, every mistake Celtic made was pounced on, and the Scottish Premiership winners were not allowed to rest for a single second.
Unlike some of his peers, Brendan Rodgers has not yet figured out how to lead Liverpool to success in Europe.
Even though they didn’t have as many tools or as much money as their opponents, Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon were able to get Celtic to play in a way that made them competitive with bigger teams.
Last night, Lennon criticized Celtic’s strategy. In 2012, he led his team to a memorable 2-1 win over Barcelona.
He said live on TNT Sports, “People who do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result are crazy.”
“[Celtic] consistently play short football and fail to impress.” At this level, you can’t do that.
“This is a really frustrating watch.”
There’s no doubt that Celtic needs to change how they play games like last night’s.
They should not leave themselves open to top-level opponents because it is useless and almost a guarantee of getting beat.
Boss Rodgers has a lot to think about after what happened last night, but he needs to stop these embarrassing beatings.
