Manchester United defender Harry Maguire gives his verdict over Erik ten Hag’s performance as coach at Manchester United after their draw match against Porto
Harry Maguire scored after coming off the bench in Thursday’s 3–3 Europa League draw between Manchester United and Porto.
When asked if he still believed in Erik ten Hag after Thursday’s wild 3-3 draw against Porto, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire said “absolutely, yeah.”
After losing badly to Tottenham over the weekend, Ten Hag was under a lot of pressure. He needed to beat Porto to calm people’s concerns about his job.
United gave up a two-goal lead to Porto, and it looked like the Portuguese team would win 3-2 until Maguire scored an amazing late equalizer in extra time.
Maguire’s goal saved a tie for United, but Ten Hag’s play felt like the end of the road, and Aston Villa’s game away from home on Sunday is a must-win.
Managers often change jobs during international breaks, and Ten Hag will probably be fired if United lose this weekend.
After the draw with Porto, Maguire went to talk to the reporters. He gave his opinion on the game and then talked about Ten Hag’s future after a bad start to the season.
It was TNT Sports who asked Maguire if he believed in Ten Hag. Maguire said, “Yes, definitely.” I’ve played for this club for about six years now, so I know how things work.
It’s not just the boss who feels pressured when things go badly. That’s because he’s been in the game and at this club long enough to know how to handle it. It’s just part of leading and playing for this club. It’s an honor to be able to do that.
Maguire joined United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer of 2019. He has played for United under Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick, and Ten Hag.
