Breaking: Manchester United sacking plans for the 54-year-old coach Erik Ten Hag has been revealed
Erik ten Hag remains the manager of Manchester United; however, there is an increasing sense of ambiguity regarding his position during the October internationals.
Erik ten Hag has not yet escaped danger if he attends the pre-match press conference at the Jimmy Murphy Centre on Thursday.
Ten Hag is sufficiently experienced, thick-skinned, and realistic to comprehend the operations of football organizations. “So was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.” He was aware that his time was up prior to the conclusion of his final contest. Jose Mourinho was also capable of recognizing the forest for the trees.
Louis van Gaal and David Moyes were the two exceptions at Manchester United, as they were in denial and deluded until the very end. After the Manchester correspondents reported his imminent dismissal on Easter Monday in 2014, there would be no resurrection for Moyes.
Moyes utilized the bank holiday to finalize an intended transfer for Luke Shaw. It had been 27 and a half years since a United manager had been dismissed. The promise of it was as abrupt and seismic for the Moyes household as it was for United supporters.
The top-four precedent was established by Moyes and Van Gaal. Both were executed as a consequence of their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Van Gaal was granted an additional period of time to oversee United in an FA Cup final.
Eight weeks prior to his arrival in Manchester, Solskjaer had reached an agreement with Ed Woodward to assume caretaker responsibility. Mourinho is a manager who is attentive to the situation and was aware of Woodward’s maneuvers.
Time is of the essence for the current United regime; however, they also have it. There will be no games for a period of ten days, the players and coaching staff are dispersed worldwide, and training will not resume until the following week.
“The notion that a manager has ‘two games to save his job’ is nonsense,” a high-ranking club official recently stated. The reaction to United’s respectable draws with Aston Villa and Porto supports this assertion.
Dismissals during the second week of an international break are not uncommon. Tottenham players were bid farewell by Mauricio Pochettino four days prior to the commencement of their domestic campaign at West Ham.
Brendan Rodgers, who was dismissed hours after a Merseyside Derby deadlock in October 2015, was significantly more decisive while at Liverpool. Liverpool had a golden duck set up in Jurgen Klopp, and they were six unbeaten.
United are uncertain about the replacement of Ten Hag. Thomas Tuchel is immediately accessible and is primarily admired by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. There is admiration for other administrators in the workplace.
The Ineos period United may also be required to compromise on their ethos. If a potential coach is hired and time is promised, there is a significant danger of a second consecutive season without Champions League football. Since United’s entry into the competition in 1993, this has not transpired.
Woodward selected Mourinho due to his ability to achieve results in a short amount of time. Two days following the Manchester Arena attack, United returned to the Champions League and won two trophies in his inaugural season. The scenes were both euphoric and emotional.
Mourinho was contacted over three months prior to Van Gaal’s ultimate departure from Carrington in May 2016. During the extended 11-day interval between Moyes’s penultimate and final matches in command in April 2014, Woodward rushed to Van Gaal.
After the Olympiakos debacle in February, Moyes’s stance diverged from that of Woodward. This was further exacerbated by the ejection from the Champions League and a series of 3-0 home league losses (which may sound familiar).
United were caught off guard when their performance plummeted under Solskjaer. Liverpool did not have a replacement in place after Liverpool’s 5-0 demolition of United at Old Trafford in October, as he was granted a new three-year contract in July 2021. Richard Arnold, the incoming chief executive, was followed by two subordinates as he entered the press room that day. They bore no resemblance to an execution squad.
After the catastrophic outcome, the hierarchy determined that Solskjaer must depart; however, they required additional time to develop a succession plan. Before Solskjaer conducted his exit interview, United suffered two additional detrimental losses to Watford and Manchester City. United continued to be unprepared and subsequently employed an interim manager and a caretaker.
In June, Ten Hag half-jokingly stated to Dutch television that United had “thrown a spanner in the works” by interrupting his holiday. In hindsight, it appears that the decision to retain him at this time caused him professional discomfort. Ten Hag and Ineos are a union of inconvenience.
Ten Hag boasted in the Wembley press conference room, adorned with an FA Cup final winner’s medal, “If they don’t want me, then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I do.”
Ten Hag was prepared for the projectile. United executed an error.
