Manchester United
Erik ten Hag issued a censure message to Manchester United, which served as a new reality check.
Manchester United have been reminded of their inability to identify an appropriate successor to Sir
Alex Ferguson in the week following his notification that he would be resigning from his ambassadorial position at the conclusion of the season. Since the Scot’s retirement in 2013, five permanent managers have been appointed, and none have appeared to be in contention for the championship. Last season, Erik ten Hag achieved the club’s lowest Premier League finish.
The Dutchman, who is currently under duress, appears to have retained his position, despite only achieving three victories in his first ten games of the season. It would be extraordinary to witness his dismissal so quickly prior to United’s match against Brentford on Saturday.
United was attracted to Thomas Tuchel because he was not affiliated with a club, which would not have necessitated a compensation fee to extract him from an existing contract. The Football Association was also impressed by this fact and promptly recruited him for the England position. The German signed his 18-month contract at Wembley the day after the Manchester Evening News revealed the story that Tuchel was being considered as a potential successor to Ten Hag, which expedited his recruitment process due to United’s interest. United did not act promptly. Over the summer, Tuchel had engaged in discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe; however, he declined to participate. He was one of numerous managers who were considered for the United manager’s position; however, the search concluded with Ten Hag signing a contract extension.
