A agreement has been reached between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim as new Coach.
A fee has been reached between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon for Ruben Amorim. On Tuesday, Sporting confirmed that United had expressed an interest in activating Amorim’s release clause of €10 million (£8.3m) as negotiations regarding a compensation package continued.
Amorim’s success at the Jose Alvalade Stadium has been significantly influenced by Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, who followed him from Barga to Sporting in 2020. Sporting’s statement on Tuesday stated that Manchester United has expressed interest in hiring coach Ruben Amorim. The board of directors of Sporting referred to the terms and conditions outlined in the employment contract between the company and the coach.
Particularly, the termination clause and the sum of €10 million. Manchester United has expressed a desire to compensate Sporting for the amount of the aforementioned clause. Amorim has previously stated that Fernandes is “his Jose Mourinho” if he becomes Bobby Robson. Amorim is poised to become the sixth permanent manager of United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Erik ten Hag was dismissed following United’s most abysmal start to a Premier League season, and Amorim will be responsible for guiding the team toward the European qualification spots.
In his inaugural season as manager in 2020/21, Amorim led Sporting to their first league championship in 19 years. In the subsequent two campaigns, Sporting finished second and fourth in the league, respectively. However, Amorim secured another league title in 2023/24, with the team prevailing by a margin of 10 points.
