A €15m transfer battle is brewing as three Championship teams — along with Sunderland and Brentford — reach out over a potential deal

Brentford, Sunderland, Stoke City, Norwich City, and Portsmouth are all keeping close tabs on Brazilian winger André Luiz, with Portuguese outlet A Bola reporting that each of the English clubs has already made early contact with Rio Ave. The Primeira Liga side have placed a firm €15 million price tag on one of their standout performers and are refusing to entertain any offers below that threshold — mirroring their hardline stance in previous negotiations involving Clayton.

André Luiz has been ever-present for Rio Ave this season, delivering four goals and four assists in 12 appearances, a run of form that has only strengthened his market value. According to A Bola, his combination of power, pace, and technique is seen as a natural fit for English football. Scouts from the interested clubs have been impressed by his ability to beat defenders one-on-one while maintaining relentless intensity throughout matches.

The interest isn’t limited to England. SC Braga remain active admirers in Portugal, and several Brazilian clubs have also requested updates on the winger. Even so, Rio Ave are unwilling to sell in January unless their €15m asking price is fully met.

Whether any English side will decide that valuation represents a worthwhile investment remains to be seen, leaving the situation wide open heading into the winter transfer window.

Sunderland were first linked with André Luiz last month, when we provided an in-depth breakdown of the player and his profile.
