A former Detroit Lions draft failure has signed with the Vikings. A well-known figure from the Detroit Lions’ recent history has returned to the NFC North. The Minnesota Vikings have signed cornerback Jeff Okudah to a one-year contract.
The Lions selected Okudah as the third overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the final draft class under the leadership of head coach Matt Patricia and former general manager Bob Quinn. Okudah, a cover man of exceptional aptitude at Ohio State,
was unable to establish a consistent level of performance during his three seasons in Detroit. He was not an impactful performer even when healthy, despite battling some injuries. Okudah was traded to the Falcons by the Lions prior to the 2023 season. Okudah will have the opportunity to confront his former team twice annually with Minnesota,
provided that he is included on the Vikings’ 53-man roster, following uneventful seasons in Atlanta and Houston. As an aside, the pick that the Lions acquired in the Falcons’ transaction was a component of another trade package (with Green Bay) that Detroit employed to advance and select safety Brian Branch in the 2023 NFL Draft.
