Juventus, has disclosed that he was on the verge of transferring to Arsenal during his adolescent years; however, he ultimately declined the opportunity due to his discontent with the club’s transfer strategy.

 

 

 

In reflecting upon the decision, Chiellini acknowledged that it was a “foolish” choice at the time; however, he recognised that it ultimately played a significant role in shaping his illustrious career.

 

In 2000, the Italian defender was merely a promising young talent at his native club, Livorno, when Arsenal expressed interest in acquiring him. Notwithstanding the appeal of becoming a part of

 

 

Wenger’s emerging dynasty, Chiellini opted against departing Livorno on a free transfer, as he perceived such a decision to be inequitable to his club. “I was reluctant to depart from my hometown club without a transfer fee,” Chiellini elucidated.

 

 

I informed my manager, “Should you reach an agreement with Arsenal, I am willing to depart; however, I cannot do so under these circumstances.

 

 

” Subsequently, Livorno requested a substantial sum from Arsenal, resulting in the failure of the transaction. Shortly thereafter, Chiellini ascended to Livorno’s first team, and his career trajectory experienced a remarkable surge.

 

 

In 2002, he entered into a co-ownership agreement with Roma; however, he was subsequently transferred back to Livorno for a duration of two seasons.

 

 

Subsequent to a loan period at Fiorentina, he signed with Juventus in 2005, a transition that would significantly shape the trajectory of his career.

 

 

 

Notwithstanding the illustrious career that ensued, Chiellini has contemplated his choice to decline Arsenal with ambivalent sentiments. “I believe that if I were to have a son at that age, I would advise him to ‘Go [to Arsenal].'”
