A new setback has been dealt to Newcastle United as a key player is ruled out of the Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal trips.
Fabian Schar will be absent from Newcastle United’s London doubleheader against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. In the 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Monday night, Schar received his fifth yellow card of the campaign.
A player who is cautioned five times in their team’s inaugural 19 matches is automatically suspended for one match in accordance with league regulations.
Newcastle and Schar are displeased with the fact that the defender was mere minutes away from averting such an outcome. At Spurs on Saturday, the disciplinary threshold will be raised to 10 yellow cards in 32 games.
is currently serving his second suspension of the season, having been suspended for three games following an apparent collision on Southampton forward Ben Brereton Diaz on the opening day. Joelinton and Dan Burn are the other two players who have been issued suspensions this season.
Furthermore, the former Switzerland international will be unable to participate in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal three days later.
According to the EFL’s regulations, any player who has been booked twice in the competition prior to the semi-final stage will be issued a one-match competition suspension. In response to Schar’s absence, United manager Eddie Howe stated to
NewcastleWorld, “Yeah, the coincidence is that he’s going to miss two games, of course, because of the Carabao Cup game.” So it is a significant setback for both us and him that we will need to adjust our defense line, as it has been so consistent for us in the middle of the pitch.
“Fab and Dan have established an exceptional partnership; however, this move will provide an opportunity for another individual, and it is my sincere hope that the team will not be negatively impacted”.
Lloyd Kelly is expected to replace Schar, while Sven Botman may make his first appearance on the field since his ACL injury in March.
