A statement has been published that states an ex-Premier League midfielder has been prohibited from playing football for a period of five years.
A five-year suspension from football has been imposed on a former Premier League star and two-time Champions League champion. Due to an incident that transpired during the 2023
African Cup of Nations, Geremi, a former Newcastle United and Chelsea midfielder, has been prohibited from participating in any form of football for a period of five years. In 2000 and 2002, the Cameroonian won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid. Subsequently, he relocated to Chelsea, where he achieved significant success, winning the Premier
League twice under Jose Mourinho. Geremi subsequently played for Turkish club Ankaragucu and Greek side AE Larisa before retiring as a player in 2011. He continued to be involved with the National Union of Footballers of Cameroon. Geremi, however, is now facing a protracted ban from all football activity following a confrontation
with Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon FA and a Barcelona football legend. It was reported that Geremi was involved in a heated exchange with a member of Eto’o’s staff during Cameroon’s encounter with Gambia at the 2023 African Cup of Nations. The situation ultimately escalated to the pair being forcibly separated.
Germ subsequently removed from the stadium by security officials, according to reports in Cameroon. Consequently, the Cameroonian FA has imposed a five-year suspension on him.In addition to a sanction of ten million West African francs [£13,000], we impose a five-year prohibition on all forms of football activity to him. He has a period of ten days to submit a written appeal.
Daniel Blaise Ngos, Geremi’s assistant, has also been issued a two-year ban and a £6,500 sanction in connection with the incident. The former Premier League icon is expected to appeal the decision in the near future, and he is even prepared to escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if deemed necessary.
