Absolutely not. Though, if I had the chance to play Celtic versus Rangers eighteen times a year like they get to, maybe I’d have

Dutch football legend Wesley Sneijder has revealed that while he never seriously considered playing for Celtic or Rangers during his illustrious career, he might have been tempted if the two Glasgow giants faced each other as frequently as it sometimes feels they do.

The former Inter Milan midfielder, who lifted the Champions League under José Mourinho in 2010, joked that he would have “considered” a move to Scotland only if he could have played in the famous Old Firm fixture multiple times a season.

Speaking to AdventureGamers.com, Sneijder said:

“Never, but if they’d let me play Celtic vs Rangers eighteen times in a season like they do, then I would have considered it! It was never a goal I set for myself to play in Scotland, but I love to watch the Old Firm games. Celtic vs Rangers, for me, was always special, especially with all the Dutch players who played there.”

He went on to praise his fellow countrymen who made their mark in Scottish football, adding:

“Michael Mols, Ronald de Boer, and Arthur Numan — they all did a great job there, but I never really thought about joining.”

Sneijder’s career spanned some of the biggest clubs in world football, including Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Galatasaray, before he wrapped up his playing days with Al-Gharafa in Qatar in 2019.

At the height of his powers, the Dutch playmaker was regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation. A key figure for the Netherlands national team, he earned 134 caps and scored 31 international goals after making his debut in 2003. Sneijder famously helped lead his country to the 2010 FIFA World Cup final in South Africa, where they narrowly lost to Spain following Andrés Iniesta’s extra-time winner.
