Defence Secretary Hegseth asserts that the United States “devastated” Iran’s nuclear program in overnight strikes. The United States “devastated the Iranian nuclear program” with its overnight strikes on three facilities,
according to US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. At a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth clarified that the operation was not intended to effect regime change, but he also reaffirmed that ”
President Trump has consistently maintained for more than a decade that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon.” He also disclosed that the United States dispatched bombers over the Pacific as a decoy during the operation and claimed that American forces “did not come under fire.” He addressed the potential for future negotiations with Tehran by stating,
“They are aware of the American position and the measures they can take to facilitate peace, and I trust that they will do so.” General Dan Caine confirmed in the same Pentagon update that the United States employed 75 “precision guided” weapons in the assaults, including 14 “Massive Ordnance Penetrators,” which are also referred to as “bunker busters.”
