After Newcastle United defeat to A-League All Stars 0-8: Newcastle coach Eddie Howe delivers his verdict on the match
0–8 for Newcastle United in the A-League All Stars: It was a terrible day for Eddie Howe’s young team in Melbourne on Friday. A-League All Stars
An 8-0 loss in Australia was the last game for Newcastle United in the 2023–24 season.
An A-League All Stars team beat a young Newcastle team that hadn’t played in the Premier League before. Mark Gillespie, Alex Murphy, and Joe White were the only goalkeepers who had played more than one game for the first team.
On Wednesday, Newcastle’s first team played in their win over Tottenham Hotspur in a spot shootout, but many of them left early for the summer.
Eddie Howe, the head coach, watched the game and smiled. “Oh, that was a tough one for our young lads,” he said. It was a tough one for them to take, but we could see the difference between youth and experience.
The game had already started, but Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, and Joelinton had already gone home. However, Howe still put first-team players Kieran Trippier, Elliot Anderson, and Lewis Hall on the bench.
Howe said, “I don’t think we could have had any first-team players in the game. It would have been too dangerous, and we couldn’t afford that, especially when you think about how far we had to travel and how quickly we had to get back to work.”
“We gave the younger guys a chance, but they had a hard time today.”
“Tomorrow we need to do better than today.” I believe that the All-Stars made too many mistakes, even though they played very well. I think that each of our players needs to think about that and figure out what they need to do to get better.
